The Taylor Spot

An intermittent journal

First floor walls mostly in place

Filed under: Construction — Chris at 9:30 pm on Friday, September 29, 2006

Construction is moving quickly now. We can now walk through the rooms on the main floor and take the stairs to the basement. I’m sure we’ll be checking dimensions with the measuring tape tomorrow, and letting the boys explore.

Sleep study complete

Filed under: Family — Chris at 8:20 am on Friday, September 29, 2006

It really went very well. Matt was absorbed in a Toy Story video while the technicians taped all the sensors to him. The most challenging to bear was a harness across his upper lip that pushed two tubes up his nose and pressed an oxygen-sensing wire to his upper lip. Even with all that gear on, he quietly laid down to sleep with Doggy after I read his two favorite books.

He was sound asleep in just 20 minutes, after I interrupted by putting on the pull-up I forgot about until then–oops. He was cold at midnight and restless between 2 and 3, but never woke up. The study ended at 5, so we got to beat Atlanta traffic getting home. Matt never went back to sleep after waking up at 5, so he will be ready for his nap.

I was not awake the whole time, but I knew any time he stirred. It was a one-eyed kind of sleep for me, but I’m great. And I’m not covered with adhesive residue like Matt is. Poor guy, that was the worst part. It’s strong tape they use for all those probes. Some in the hair, lots on the tender parts of his face and neck. But he’s running around and whooping it up with his brothers this morning, praise God. The technicians did not see low oxygen levels or any other critical issues. We will await the full report, due in a couple of weeks.

Sleep study tonight

Tonight I take Matt in for his sleep study. It starts at 7:30. I pray it will go well.

Matt’s followup visit was good

Filed under: Family — Chris at 9:50 pm on Tuesday, September 26, 2006

The doctor gave Matt a thumbs-up after examining his eye during a follow-up office visit this morning. The duct on the surface of his face seems to be scarring over at last. Matt needs to wait 3 more months for complete healing before the doctor will remove the tube.

Now on with the sleep study!

Basement framing well underway

Filed under: Construction — Chris at 9:47 pm on Tuesday, September 26, 2006

The basement framing was mostly complete when I went by this morning. I’ll check again tomorrow morning. They may have some floor joists up by then.

They all rolled over, Tori fell out

Filed under: Family — Chris at 10:40 pm on Monday, September 25, 2006

Tonight Tori learned to roll off the bed. It wasn’t a bad thing: I was there to catch her and she was delighted, squealing and laughing. I just hope I’m there when she decides to roll off the bed in the future! We got some video.

After bath and before bed (when young boys are always at their most creative), Matt, Drew and Alex set up camp chairs in our driveway in the dark: 3 for them, plus a booster seat for Tori. I’ll share a picture of that later. Matt was wearing nothing but a pull-up, but our neighbors are surely used to that by now.

Matt

Thankfully, Matt’s last eye surgery appears to be successful at this point. I go to the doctor on Tuesday for him to check it.

Please, say another prayer for Matt. He has a sleep apnea study on Thursday night. Please pray that sleeping with things hooked up to him will not be traumatic and that the doctors will be able to find out why he can wake up after a “good” night’s rest and still be obviously unrefreshed (a.k.a very fussy!).

Speech is going really well. He loves his teacher, and he is learning so much.

I am also planning to have him tested again to see if he needs occupational therapy. As much as I don’t want to, I must admit that he is awkward looking when he waves, he can’t show us with his fingers that he is three years old, and several other little things. Please pray that Chris and I will have discernment through this process also.

Tori’s Sunday Dress

Filed under: Family — Melissa at 9:54 pm on Sunday, September 24, 2006

Dear Cousin Evelyn,

Thank you for ALL of the hand-me-downs! Today, I got lots of compliments on your navy-and-red, polka-dotted, smocked, House of Hatten dress! Mommy is thinking of having my 9 month picture taken in it! And oh, yes–Katie Greer’s mommy gave me this hair bow that matched perfectly! Everyone thought that it came with the dress!

Love,

Tori

Kitchen Cabinets

My wall cabinets will hopefully be this distressed white look, and my islands will be in a glazed cherry finish-I hope.  Nothing is final, yet!
