It really went very well. Matt was absorbed in a Toy Story video while the technicians taped all the sensors to him. The most challenging to bear was a harness across his upper lip that pushed two tubes up his nose and pressed an oxygen-sensing wire to his upper lip. Even with all that gear on, he quietly laid down to sleep with Doggy after I read his two favorite books.
He was sound asleep in just 20 minutes, after I interrupted by putting on the pull-up I forgot about until then–oops. He was cold at midnight and restless between 2 and 3, but never woke up. The study ended at 5, so we got to beat Atlanta traffic getting home. Matt never went back to sleep after waking up at 5, so he will be ready for his nap.
I was not awake the whole time, but I knew any time he stirred. It was a one-eyed kind of sleep for me, but I’m great. And I’m not covered with adhesive residue like Matt is. Poor guy, that was the worst part. It’s strong tape they use for all those probes. Some in the hair, lots on the tender parts of his face and neck. But he’s running around and whooping it up with his brothers this morning, praise God. The technicians did not see low oxygen levels or any other critical issues. We will await the full report, due in a couple of weeks.
