Picture of boys in bunk beds

Filed under: Family — Chris at 8:31 pm on Monday, November 20, 2006

I snapped a picture of Drew and Alex in their new bed.

Bunk beds, boys included

Excitement is way up, but quality of sleep seems to have declined dramatically if behavior is any measure. We hope that is temporary, and in fact we hope everyone gets a couple of good nights of sleep before we all jump in the van to drive to Nebraska!

Bunk beds

Melissa found a twin-over-double set of bunk beds in a consignment shop for less then $100, and I brought them home and set them up today. We were going to wait until Christmas, but I was too excited. The boys were thrilled! They played on the beds for the rest of the day, and went to bed an hour early tonight.

For Matt, the change in routine was too much, it seems. He would not settle down, and he ended up back in his room. I hope he will adjust. All three boys love the thought of sharing a room–at least for now!

Construction update: drywall hung

Filed under: Construction — Chris at 8:41 pm on Saturday, November 18, 2006

The drywall crew has come. They are fast. They started Monday, and everything was hung by Wednesday. Today they were doing the finishing mud. I have a picture of the view from our family room into the kitchen, taken Thursday morning.

Back in Yours and Grandmommy’s Day

Filed under: Family,Funny — Melissa at 6:41 pm on Saturday, November 11, 2006

I asked Drew to “sweep the dining room.” (We have carpet in our current dining room.)

He replied, “You mean with a broom?”

I said, “No, of course, I mean vacuum the dining romm. You see Grandmommy used to call it sweeping, and I often call it that too. Daddy always thinks that it’s confusing, too!”

He said, “Oh I know-Back in Yours and Grandmommy’s day, all you had was brooms!”

Tori seems all better

Filed under: Family — Chris at 10:02 pm on Thursday, November 9, 2006

I think the virus is behind her. Praise God, and thanks for all the prayers on her behalf. Melissa reports she had a fussy kind of day, but after a long afternoon nap she woke up very sunny.

We think she may be teething again. I guess 4 teeth is not enough for her!

Still no crawling yet.

Pumpkin Cannon

Filed under: Funny — Chris at 9:58 pm on Thursday, November 9, 2006

If you missed seeing it on Fox News, you can watch three different “news” reports showing the firing of a pumpkin cannon. In case the links are gone from The Rock Ranch home page, here are clips 1, 2, and 3.

I know Jeff Manley, the operator of the pumpkin cannon shown in these video clips. He is hilarious. He runs The Rock Ranch, Truett Cathy‘s cattle farm near Barnesville, where families can come get a taste of rural living. I don’t know if pumpkin hurling really fits into the traditional definition of rural living, but it is quite a blast.

Status on Tori and Drew

Filed under: Church,Family — Chris at 10:36 pm on Sunday, November 5, 2006

Alex and I went to church this morning and came home in the afternoon. We found that Tori had an OK day: no major events, but still feeling rotten. Drew has periodic bouts of nausea and hot flashes, but has not worsened. His seems a low-grade nuisance right now. All the rest of us are still doing great.

Thanks for all the prayers! The prayer requests and praise reports at Bethany this morning took a full 20 minutes, and praise reports got nearly equal time with requests for prayer. We had some of both, and it was a sweet time. I was very encouraged, and shared the experience with Melissa. I hope we are all back together in church next weekend.

Drew has another birthday party

Filed under: Family — Chris at 10:29 pm on Sunday, November 5, 2006

The first party was a few days early. This one was on the actual day. It coincided with Tori’s high fever and seizure, so the evening didn’t go quite as we planned it. But Drew loved opening the package from Ben and family, which arrived on exactly the right day. Here you can see him discovering a toy and reading a card from Lauren.

He also enjoyed taking the day off school and putting up the Christmas tree. Oh, yes: we are ready for Santa quite early this year.

House update

Filed under: Construction — Chris at 10:21 pm on Sunday, November 5, 2006

Yes, besides all the events of recent days, we are still building a house. All electrical, plumbing, and low-voltage rough-ins are complete. Insulation goes in tomorrow. Drywall should start by end of week. Decisions are due in fast and furious fashion now.

Both oval windows are Tori’s. Cute how that worked out, huh?
